Eastern Washington University

Eastern Washington University offers advanced standing and standard MSW programs at four campuses via hybrid or on-campus delivery. Advanced standing students will complete 51 credit hours in as few as three quarters while standard MSW students are required to complete up to 90 credit hours, finishing the program in as few as two years.

Seattle University

There are two MSW programs at Seattle University: a two-year program for standard students and a 10-month advanced standing program for BSW graduates. Students of both programs will study in a cohort model, progressing through the program with peers, and can choose a concentration in medical/health social work, addictions, or trauma informed practice.

University of Washington - Seattle Campus

Students can earn a Master of Social Work at University of Washington - Seattle Campus through one of four programs: advanced standing full-time (10 months, 48 credit hours), advanced standing part-time (17 months, 48 credit hours), the day program (2 years, 75 credit hours), or the extended degree program (3 years, 75 credit hours). Students of the full-time advanced standing or day program can choose a concentration in administration & policy practice, clinical social work, or community-centered integrative practice; students in the extended degree or part-time advanced standing programs can choose a concentration of integrative health/mental health advanced practice or multigenerational practice with children, families, & elders.

University of Washington - Tacoma Campus

Students who have a BSW can earn a Master of Social Work in 18 months of part-time study through the 45-credit-hour advanced standing program at University of Washington - Tacoma campus. Students with bachelor's degrees in other fields can earn the degree in three years of part-time study through the 3-year MSW program (75 credit hours).

Walla Walla University

The Master of Social Work program at Walla Walla University has a clinical focus and can be completed in less than two years through a hybrid model of online and on-campus courses. On-site classes meet on Mondays and are available at three campuses. Regular students complete 79 credit hours and 900 field/practicum hours while advanced standing students are required to complete 49 credit hours and 600 practicum hours.

Admittance Requirements for Master of Social Work Programs in Washington

Master of Social Work programs in Washington require all applicants to have completed a bachelor's degree. Students who have a degree outside of social work are required to complete foundation courses in a standard MSW program, and students who have a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) can typically bypass the foundation courses and earn an MSW through an accelerated track or program. In addition, programs may require students to have earned their BSW degree in the last five years, and may require all students to have earned an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or similar. Students may also need to have completed an undergraduate course in statistics and earned a qualifying score on an English proficiency exam if English is not their native language.
