North Carolina State University

North Carolina State University offers both full-time and part-time programs for students who want to earn their Master of Public Administration degree. Students working to earn an MPA degree at North Carolina State University must complete a minimum of 42 credit hours of courses and an internship prior to graduation.

University of North Carolina - Wilmington

The Master of Public Administration degree program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is a terminal professional degree program. Students in this 42-credit program will learn skills essential to their future career in the public service or nonprofit management areas of businesses.

North Carolina Central University

North Carolina Central University offers five different possible specializations for students in the Master of Public Administration program, and these include human resources, public health policy, law and society, non-profit management, and urban and regional planning. Students at North Carolina Central University may also pursue a dual degree with either a JD in the NCCU School of Law or a MIS in the NCCU School of Library and Information Sciences.

Western Carolina University

The Master of Public Affairs program at Western Carolina University requires students to complete 39 credit hours of coursework. Appalachian State University

Appalachian State University offers four different tracks to students pursuing their MPA degree: administration of justice; not-for-profit management; public management; and town, city, and county management. The program requires the completion of 42 credit hours, which includes an internship or field experience.

University of North Carolina at Pembroke

The MPA program at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke can be completed either completely online or in a mix of both online and on campus classes. There are four concentrations offered at this school, and they are criminal justice, emergency management, health administration, and public management.

East Carolina University

East Carolina University offers a Master of Public Administration program that is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. This program includes 27 credits of core courses, an internship, a professional paper, and 12 credits of courses in an area of emphasis (either management or public policy).

University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers a Master of Public Administration degree through their School of Government. This MPA program is offered both online and on campus, and requires all students to complete a Professional Work Experience Practicum (PWE).

University of North Carolina - Charlotte

Students can earn a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte on campus or online , though students may need to take part in in-person field experience opportunities. How to Earn an MPA Degree

Earning a master's degree in public administration can take upwards of four years to complete for students enrolled part-time, though full-time students can earn the degree in just two. Some of the courses that students in these programs can expect to see over the course of their studies include public policy, budgeting, and public administration.

Public Policy

A course in public policy can teach students about the process of creating public policies and laws. This class may also cover topics like stages of policy development, alternatives to policies, implementation process of public policy, and the outcomes of public policy implementation. Students in this class may also study current public policies in place and the effects that they have had on the population.

Budgeting

Budgeting courses are designed to prepare students for handling finances when working in different public agencies. Students could learn about the different legal aspects of auditing, preparing budgets, and financial administration. By the conclusion of this course students should be comfortable using spreadsheets and reading an array of different financial statements.

Public Administration Seminar

A public administration course can help students to learn about the different problems that public administrators can face in their line of work. This course will also teach students about the duties of public administrators and some major players in the field. This is considered to be a reading intensive class.
