Students who want to earn a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in an online format can choose from a number of different schools in the state of California. Learn about these schools and the programs that they offer in the article below.

University of Southern California

The University of Southern California offers an online Master of Public Administration degree program that is designed to take students a total of two years to complete if students take summer classes as well. Students will need to take a minimum of 43 units prior to graduation, one of which should be earned from an internship experience.

Notre Dame de Namur

Notre Dame de Namur offers a two-year Master of Public Administration program that students can complete one hundred percent in an online environment. Students enrolled in this program will need to take a total of 36 units worth of classes over the course of their studies; students can also choose to specialize in public affairs administration or human resource management, which will require the completion of 12 additional units.

University of San Francisco

The University of San Francisco offers a 39-unit online Master of Public Administration program that can be completed in as little as 21 months. Students might take courses that cover topics such as policy analysis, program evaluation, ethics, human resource planning, and budgeting.

San Diego State University

The Master of Public Administration program offered at San Diego State University can be completed through online coursework in as little as 16 months. Students in this program will be required to take a total of 36 units that cover topics such as personnel administration, public administration, administrative theory, four electives, and a capstone project.

California State University Dominguez Hills

Admission Requirements

Students that hope to gain admission into a Master of Public Administration program at a school in the state of California will need to already hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Students might need to have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA in their undergraduate coursework, though some schools require a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. In addition, students might need to submit a current resume or CV and at least two letters of recommendation to all schools that they are applying to. Some schools require previous work experience in the field, while others only recommend it.

Students can choose to complete the necessary coursework to earn a Master of Public Administration degree completely online from one of the many schools in the state of California, like California Baptist University, San Diego State University, or California State University. Students must already hold a bachelor's degree to be accepted into one of these programs, and once accepted, students can earn a Master of Public Administration degree in as little as 16 months and 36 units worth of classes.
