What Skills Should I Have?

Being able to work with customers and maintain a professional tone at all times is an important part of the role. Your communication skills need to be well developed, with a good understanding of how to act as the face of a company. Being creative is also a big advantage for this job, you will have to tell stories in a range of different ways to constantly engage a new and existing audience. Sensitivity is important as a social media specialist because companies often respond to current events as part of their social media strategy. This means being able to tactfully respond to news while maintaining the right tone for the brand.

The BLS reported that in 2017 the median wage for all public relations specialists, including those working in social media, was $59,300. This includes employees working for the government as well as for businesses and in advertising.
