Chicago State University has a Master of Social Work program that prepares students for advanced roles in social work, including as administrators, supervisors, and social workers. The standard program can be completed in two years and consists of 60 credit hours, while the advanced standing program consists of 33 credits; both programs offer concentration options in school social work, family & children's services direct practice, and administration in family & children's services.

DePaul University

The Master of Social Work program at DePaul University can be specialized in community practice to prepare for leadership roles or in forensic social work to prepare for advocacy roles in legal system and human services settings. The program can be completed in two years and consists of 88 credit hours; advanced standing students can waive up to 12 credit hours. Students may also pursue a dual MSW/Master of Arts in Women's & Gender Studies (108 credit hours).

Erikson Institute

Erikson Institute has a 60-credit-hour Master of Social Work program that can be completed in around two years on campus, preparing students for careers such as policy advocate, mental health consultant, children & families' therapist, and social service administrator. The advanced standing program consists of 40 credit hours, and students from either MSW track can choose a concentration in infant & early childhood mental health; children's law & policy; or youth, family, & community.

Loyola University Chicago

Loyola University Chicago offers a two-year Master of Social Work program that consists of 60 credit hours, an advanced standing program that can be completed in 10 months (28 credit hours), and five MSW dual-degree programs, including children's law & policy (MJ), public health (MPH), and social justice (MA). The MSW programs offer concentration options in health, children & families, schools, mental health, and leadership & development in social services as well as five sub-specialties in gero-ed, PACES, advanced family treatment, migration studies, and group work.

Northeastern Illinois University

Students can earn a Master of Social Work at Northeastern Illinois University in as little as one year through the 34-credit-hour advanced standing program or in as few as two years through the 60-credit-hour standard MSW program. Students can choose a concentration in leadership & change or social work practice with vulnerable populations, and they have opportunities to apply their education through various fieldwork experiences.

University of Chicago

The University of Chicago has a Master of Arts in Social Work and Social Welfare program that consists of a similar curriculum to a Master of Social Work but has a broader exploration of social work policy development and social science theory. Students can choose a concentration in clinical administration or social administration and take electives to further customize their education, completing a total of 18 courses over two years of study.

University of Illinois at Chicago

At the University of Illinois at Chicago, students can earn a Master of Social Work in two to three years by competing the 62-credit-hour traditional program or in one year through the 34-credit-hour advanced standing program. Students may also pursue a certificate in evidence-based mental health practice with children, a dual degree in public health (MPH), and an additional interdepartmental concentration in violence studies, gender & women's studies, or survey research methodology.
