Your duties may include deciding how and when software systems should be used or upgraded for the benefit of organizational efficiency.

As reported by the BLS in May 2013, computer and information systems managers earned an average of $132,570 a year (www.bls.gov).

How Can I Work in System Management?

Earning an associate's or bachelor's degree in information systems management can provide you with the technical knowledge and skills necessary to obtain an entry-level position in the field. For example, you might join an IT support staff or become a member of a systems development team. Coursework in information systems management can include training in computer programming, business analytics, accounting, Web development and auditing, among other topics.

IT employers often prefer candidates who have a master's degree in information systems management or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on technology. Completion of a doctoral degree program may qualify you for a career in research or academia.
