Career Overview

As a salon and cosmetology manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing personnel and maintaining a well-run shop. Your duties may include reviewing job applicants, training and evaluating employees and creating schedules. You might also examine work stations for proper hygiene and make sure that all employees are offering the same high standard of customer service. Advertising, promotions and record keeping may also be a part of your responsibilities.

In addition to a position as a salon manager, you might be employed as a spa manager or director. Salon and cosmetology managers often advance to their positions after working as hair stylists or other salon workers.
