Is Visual Communication Technology for Me?

Career Overview

Visual communication technicians operate, maintain and repair the equipment used to disseminate visual information, such as animations, digital images and videos. As a visual communication technician, you might use computer applications and sophisticated software to edit and produce a variety of digital media and visual content. Knowledge of graphic design, color theory and layout are also important in visual communication technology.

While minimal to no change in employment was expected for film editors and video editors, a 3%, or slower-than-average growth in jobs was projected for television editors during the same period. As of May 2013, the mean annual wage for a prepress technician was $39,150, while film and video editors earned $69,490 (www.bls.gov).
