What Are Three of the Top Recording Arts Programs?

Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington

IU was ranked 101-150th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities for 2018. The Jacobs School of Music's Recording Arts Department at Indiana University offers associate and bachelor's degrees. The associate degree is designed to be completed along with a bachelor's in another area, like telecommunications or music.

Students may select an additional concentration in a related music area, or in telecommunications, business, computer science or informatics. Students in the recording arts program provide sound support for all IU performance activities, including orchestra concerts and ballet recitals. These students also record and produce projects for the university's record label, IU Music.

Available facilities include four recording studios, two production labs, an electronics lab and a multi-track studio. You'll also have access to the IU Library's Center for Electronic and Computer Music and other music centers and institutes. You can earn the following degrees:

New York University (NYU)

The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore, MD

The bachelor's degree program requires a unique double major that combines Peabody Conservatory music coursework with computer, math and science courses in JHU's Whiting School of Engineering. Internships with TV, radio and recording companies are arranged.

The recording and production master's program requires completion of courses in acoustics and recording systems. Applicants to the master's program need to complete undergraduate or preliminary coursework in physics, calculus, music theory and introductory audio engineering. Possible degrees include:
