What You Need to Know

If you want to become a certified nursing assistant or aide (CNA), you can do so by completing a nursing certificate program. Completing such a program can prepare you to sit for the state's Nurse Aide Competency Exam. Some programs can be completed with 7-10 credit hours of training courses, which usually takes one semester of full-time study to complete; others require a certain number of contact hours, usually around 120, which can be completed over about six weeks.

Schools Offering CNA Programs in Chicago

City Colleges of Chicago - Harold Washington College

The basic nursing assistant (BNA) program is part of the school's continuing education department. The program is also offered at several of City College of Chicago's campus locations. Through classroom lectures, lab studies, and clinical education, you learn to provide basic patient care as part of a health care team. When all parts of the program are complete, you can take the Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Exam.
