Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) offers courses at all times of the day, with additional courses being offered on weekends. Its construction technology certificate program can educate you on both the technical and managerial aspects of construction. You'll examine such building systems as plumbing, lighting, cooling and electrical. Core courses cover topics in ordinances, small business management and construction documentation as well. You'll also complete of one of two elective courses; you can choose from computer-aided design or advanced modeling techniques.

This 2-semester certificate program can prepare you for an entry-level career in the construction industry. Available course topics range from structural construction and framing techniques to siding and drywall. You can also learn how to work with design software, read construction documents and reduce the risk of injury on the job site. Other topics of study include intermediate algebra and composition. A 5-week internship rounds out program requirements.
