What Courses Will I Take in a European Studies Bachelor's Degree Program?

Bachelor's degree program curricula will allow you to gain an in-depth knowledge of historical and modern European politics, culture, economics and society. European studies programs are interdisciplinary and draw upon courses in the humanities and social sciences. Are There Any Additional Requirements for This Degree?

A European studies bachelor's degree requires you to be proficient in a European language other than English for graduation. Many programs require you to take a foreign language for three or four years at the college level and have a proficient reading and speaking knowledge of this language.

Many programs also require you to complete a semester of study abroad in a European country that is compatible with your foreign language coursework. You may be required to complete a research project and thesis during your senior year that includes your experiences during your semester abroad and your chosen foreign language.

Can I Pursue This Education Online?

There are currently no online degree programs in European studies. However, an option may be to take required general education courses online and then complete the core classes of the major on campus.

What Can I Do With My Degree?

Many students in a European studies program add an additional major such as business or foreign language to their studies. Most students who choose to complete a bachelor's degree only in this field go on to graduate school to continue their studies and prepare for careers in education as secondary or postsecondary teachers in topics such as:
