What Are the Prerequisites?

You'll need to possess a bachelor's degree before applying, and most schools will ask that you have at least two years of work experience. Taking the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is often an important part of the application process. In addition, you'll typically be required to submit 2-3 letters of recommendation, as well as a written statement expressing your educational goals.

What Learning Options Are Available?

Many schools tailor their programs to the needs of working professionals. They may offer classes on the weekends, or you may be able to enroll in an evening-only program. There are also programs offered in the summer.

Additionally, several non-profit administration MBA programs are offered entirely online, though most will ask you to attend 1-2 campus-based orientation sessions or seminars. Some schools also offer hybrid programs that feature a combination on on-campus and online classes. For online coursework, you'll need a computer with Internet access and word processing software.

What Can I Do With My Degree?

Non-profit MBA graduates often apply for positions with social justice organizations, community healthcare agencies or charitable foundations. You may find work as a hospital administrator, program manager, director of development or an executive director. The number of jobs available for social and community service managers is expected to increase 10% from 2014 to 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov); however, gains are often contingent on local and state government spending budgets.
