Mobile App Helps Schools Respond to Emergencies
Perhaps nothing is more crucial in an emergency situation than response time. Wireless technology exists that cuts down response times to the press of a button. And a mobile app makes an easy-to-use system even faster and more effective! Find out how this technology can be used to maintain safety in schools across the country.
Wireless Technology Goes Mobile
A student is injured on the school playground and a nurse is needed, pronto. A verbal argument between two students may erupt in physical violence at any second and a teacher, alone in the classroom, needs help. A student lets school officials know that someone is in the act of vandalizing the girls' room.
From food fights to fist fights, every school has its fair share of violent confrontations and general mayhem. Imagine how many volatile situations in schools could be diffused if response times were measured in seconds rather than minutes. Combine wireless technology with a mobile app and you have that type of response time. PinPoint Technologies has moved such scenarios beyond the imagination.
A sister company of RF Technologies, PinPoint provides Real Time Location Solutions to a wide range of customers, including healthcare and education. Founded in 1987, RF Technologies manufactures safety and alert devices for children, teenagers and the elderly.
A Safer School Environment
PinPoint Technology's Help Alert system consists of a small pendant worn by school staff and teachers. When a teacher or other school personnel needs assistance, he or she simply presses a button on the pendant. This transmits a signal to other pendant wearers, letting them know exactly where the emergency is located. Within seconds a school nurse, security staff member or other teachers can be on hand, potentially before a punch or a hard roll is thrown.
The system's mobile app, available as a free download, can be used on iPhones, iPads, iPods and other mobile devices. This app allows the alerted individual to identify the caller and monitor the situation and any changes while he or she is on the way to the location. Floor plans can even be accessed on the mobile device! The alert can be cleared or stored for later access.
Unveiled in June, 2011 at the National PTA Convention, the system is touted as effective, affordable and easy to use. PinPoint is targeting other education-related events in order to spread the word about Help Alert and its mobile app in hopes that schools will realize its impact on safety and implement the system as quickly as possible. Maybe as quickly as it takes for Help Alert users to arrive on the scene.
