Associate's and bachelor's degrees lead to eligibility to take the national certification exam as a registered nurse and require two to three and four years to earn, respectively. Schools that offer award programs in nursing include public and private, two-year and four-year institutions. Programs will likely require the successful passing of a background check for entrance, due to the clinical component of the curriculum.

Certificate Program in Indiana

Ivy Tech Community College

The technical certificate program in practical nursing is composed of 48 credit hours and is designed to prepare you to become an LPN or LVN in the state of Indiana. Coursework in this program includes subjects like anatomy and physiology, medical and surgical nursing, pharmacology, mental health nursing and geriatric nursing. The program will also include clinical and lab experiences. This certificate shares its curriculum with the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program at Ivy Tech, so you could earn this program as you work towards the ASN.
