What You Need to Know

Certificates, training programs and associate's degree programs are sources where you can obtain paramedic training. Training programs require about 400 hours of study, while certificates may take a year and a half to three years to complete. Associate's degree programs usually require two years of study, although they also require you to complete general education classes along with your paramedic training.

Paramedic Training Program in New Jersey

Ocean County College

In this program, you'll receive instruction in pediatric, obstetrical, gerontological, behavioral, trauma and airway management emergencies. You'll also learn about intensive therapeutics in cardiac care and pharmacology. Upon completion of the program, you'll receive certifications in cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and prehospital trauma life support.

Paramedic Certificate Programs in New Jersey

Camden County College

For this program, which prepares you for an entry-level paramedic position, previous ambulance service experience is beneficial. You'll take courses in physiology, anatomy and paramedic care in addition to participating in clinicals. Before you can complete a clinical, you may have to submit to a background check and a drug screening, as well as obtain a health clearance.

Hudson County Community College

You'll take an advanced course in physiology and anatomy, along with courses in prehospital emergency care, medical emergencies and pharmacological intervention in your first semester. Courses offered during your second semester include emergency cardiac care and prehospital care for special populations. You'll complete a field internship in the third semester and take courses in trauma management and special prehospital operations.

Union County College

As part of this certificate program, you'll complete lecture courses on paramedic procedures along with a clinical and a field internship. Desirable skills include the abilities to communicate with various multicultural groups, act quickly and work independently, along with good judgment and leadership skills. Though not a strict requirement, this program is intended for students who have previously earned an academic degree.

Camden County College

This associate's degree program is geared towards licensed paramedics who want to advance into the areas of emergency medical services (EMS) management or education. Courses include English composition, computer literacy, paramedic care topics, EMS management or EMS education, medical terminology, biomedical ethics and lab science. The program will teach you more about the roles of paramedics, classroom instructors and EMS management systems.
