Can I Become Certified?

The American Society of Transportation and Logistics (ASTL) offers certification for transportation and logistics professionals (www.astl.org). To qualify for the Certified Transportation and Logistics (CTL) designation, you must have either an undergraduate degree or three years experience in the transportation field. To earn the CTL, you must complete six exams given by the ASTL. Three exams are mandatory, while an additional three can be selected from a list.

The North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) also offers certifications in the transportation field (www.natmi.org). The institute provides seminars that lead to their certifications. Along with completing the coursework, you are expected to have some experience in the area you're seeking certification. You can seek certification as a director or supervisor of safety or maintenance, or as a cargo specialist.
