Popular General Certifications
While the entry-level CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification is available, the most popular certification is the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Like all Cisco certifications, the CCNA is earned by passing an examination. The test for the CCNA certification is given through Pearson VUE. However, pre-exam training is widely available.
Training in the CCNA curriculum may be obtained through community colleges across the United States. Examples include:
- Harford Community College in Maryland
- Saint Louis Community College in Missouri
- Austin Community College in Texas
Saint Louis Community College also offers the coursework for the next level of certification, the CCNP. Some of this training is available online.

A variety of private companies offer licensed CCNA training. They are often able to provide it in a popular boot-camp format that compresses the curriculum into a couple of weeks. They have many satellite locations and may even be able to provide on-site training for companies. Examples include:
- Center for Professional Development at ITT Technical Institute
- Fast Lane
- Global Knowledge
These companies also provide training in many of the more advanced certifications from Cisco.
