What Is Linux Plus Certification?

If you are savvy with Linux operating systems, you might consider earning Linux Plus certification so as to demonstrate your abilities to potential employers. If you are not yet familiar with Linux but are interested in expanding your knowledge of computer systems and technology, read on to learn what earning Linux Plus certification entails.

About Linux Plus Certification

You can earn a Linux Plus certification by passing two examinations: LX0-103 and LX0-104. The examinations are offered jointly through the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and the Linux Professional Institute (LPI). You will have 90 minutes to answer 60 questions for each test.

To take these tests, you must be proficient in Linux operating systems. CompTIA and LPI advise individuals who are considering this certification to learn A+ (the basis for information technology and computer careers) and Network+ (professional networking topics); certifications in these areas are also offered via CompTIA. One year of Linux work experience is also recommended.

After signing up, you can access lesson notes, audio clips, virtual laboratory projects, and other relevant online resources.

There is also the option of completing a postsecondary education program. Short certificate programs in Linux/Unix are available. Undergraduate certificate and degree programs in computer information science and information technology networking also offer courses that are focused on Linux Plus. Completing a full college program can give you a broader education and prepare you for a wider range of careers in the computer and information science industries.

Obtaining certification in Linux Plus can lead to various administration jobs, including systems administrator, database administrator, and network administrator. Moreover, if you obtain your knowledge of Linux operating systems via a certificate or degree program that is related to computer and information science, you may be positioned to take on additional jobs such as computer information specialist, computer systems programmer, and information analyst.
