Reasons For Pursuing Microsoft Certifications

Developers who complete the MCSD certification are better equipped and more prepared to meet challenges than their peers without certification. The information technology field is rapidly changing, so relevant and up-to-date certification is an excellent way for professionals to prove that they have experience and skills.

Prior to pursuing the MCSD certification, students and professionals can choose to pursue the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification, which covers many similar topics, but at a more basic level. Although MCSA certification is not a required prerequisite for the MCSD, it does provide many of the core technical skills required for the more advanced certification, making it a good building block for inexperienced developers.

MCSD Certification Exams

In order to be recognized as an MCSD, individuals need only to complete the certification exam (or exams) for the specialization of their choosing. Although Microsoft does not require students to complete them, several optional training courses are offered that teach students about the major concepts and topics that will be found on the exam. These courses are extremely useful, as those taking the exam without extensive education and preparation are not likely to pass. Exam costs will vary depending on the certification being sought, but most cost around $150.
