There are three levels of emergency medical technician (EMT) training: EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate/Advanced, and EMT-Paramedic. Training programs are available for all three levels of training at two-year, public schools in Wisconsin, although not all schools offer all three levels of training. Chippewa Valley Technical College

Chippewa Valley Technical College is part of Wisconsin's technical college system and serves the Eau Claire region of the state across 9 campuses. The school offers an EMT-Basic and an EMT-Intermediate certificate program. In the 144-hour EMT-B program, you'll study pre-hospital emergency care techniques, including patient assessment, ambulance operations and airway management. The 90-hour EMT-I program focuses on intravenous access techniques and medication administration. You first complete the EMT-B program or already have your EMT-B certification in order to enroll in the EMT-I program.

Chippewa Valley also offers a paramedic technician associate's degree program. Admission prerequisites include a high school diploma and CPR certification. You'll begin this 70-credit program by learning the EMT-B skill set, followed by coursework in trauma care, EKG interpretation, pharmacology and medical documentation. You'll complete roughly 500 hours of hands-on work outside of the classroom.
