University of North Dakota

The University of North Dakota offers an online bachelor's degree program in civil engineering which features the same curriculum as the on-campus program. All lectures take place online; however, laboratory classes are only available on campus. Lab classes are scheduled during the summer and take place over 3-14 days. If you attend full-time, you generally can complete the program in four years. If you're studying on a part-time schedule, completion may take six years or more.

The program consists of general education coursework along with upper-division engineering studies. You may be able to waive certain required courses by presenting proof of engineering work experience. Also, any previously-earned college credits may be transferable. Faculty is available to provide academic support via phone or e-mail. The school also provides you with online tutoring opportunities and advising services.

Old Dominion University

At Old Dominion University, you might pursue a bachelor's degree in civil engineering technology online. If you have earned previous college credits, you may be able to transfer some or all of them. You need to take at least 64 credits out of 127 credits total. Coursework concludes with a senior project that combines theoretical learning with practical application. The bachelor's degree program is designed to prepare you to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination, which is the introductory step towards engineering licensure in many states.

The civil engineering technology program is a fully online program available at schools in Washington State, Virginia and Arizona. The program delivery is through streaming video and satellite. Streaming video allows you to view and participate in lectures in real time or to review archived lectures. Courses via satellite are only available at specific sites and are not archived.

You may interact with other students and the lecturer, and you may complete coursework at your own pace with the exception of assignments and examinations. A webcam and microphone may be required in order to take part in interactive sessions. You can communicate with fellow students and faculty through live chat and e-mail.
