Bachelor's and master's degree programs in nursing are offered at 4-year public universities in Minnesota. You can expect to complete classes, lab sessions and clinical training. Aspiring nurses can enter a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program that takes four years; licensed RNs can apply to a RN-to-BSN track that's accelerated. You may need to apply to the nursing program after you're admitted to the school. Prerequisites include coursework, CPR and CNA certification, and clean background checks. Sometimes, you may be able to take classes online. Students with a bachelor's degree in another field can enter a Master of Nursing program that takes less than 18 months and prepare for RN licensure; completion of prerequisite courses is required for admission.

Bemidji State University

In order to participate in this program, you'll need to register for admission to Bemidji State University and then apply to the nursing program through a separate application process after completing at least 30 credit hours of college-level coursework. Two nursing courses are also required for admission, but you have the option of completing them before you apply or you can be registered in the classes at the time you apply. In the nursing program, you'll take courses in nursing skills, health assessments, nursing research and leadership. You'll also participate in practicums.

This type of program, commonly known as an RN-BSN program, allows RNs who may only have a diploma or associate's degree to return to school and earn a bachelor's degree in nursing. The school recommends you take part in volunteer work and study-abroad programs during your summers and through winter breaks.
