Louisiana State University

For 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranked Louisiana State University #140 among national universities. The Department of Cardiopulmonary Science at Louisiana State University's Health Science Centers at both New Orleans and Shreveport offers identical bachelor's degree programs, both of which prepares graduates to be qualified in both respiratory therapy and echocardiography and sonography. Besides getting a solid liberal arts education, students are taught vascular 2-D, Doppler and color-flow sonography. There is a required echocardiography course, along with two vascular studies courses. All students are required to write a senior thesis before graduation. The core curriculum includes courses in:

University of South Carolina

University of South Carolina in Columbia has been ranked by the Carnegie Foundation as one of the top institutions for research in the nation. The Bachelor of Science program consists of three years of study at the university followed by a 12-18 month clinical internship at a local hospital.

The first year consists of general studies. Major courses over the next two years include biology, genetics and biochemistry. The final internship tract is reserved for specific studies in cardiovascular diagnosis, vascular specialties and invasive or noninvasive procedures.

Valencia College

Valencia College in Orlando, FL, was named the best community college in the nation as the inaugural winner of the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence in 2017-2018. The college offers an Associate in Science in Cardiovascular Technology program that is a limited enrollment program. Students are admitted through a selected admission process.

Studies are provided in invasive and non-invasive cardiology tests, critical care practices, EKG and other cardiovascular diagnostic equipment, cardiopulmonary anatomy and microbiology. A four-part practicum allows students to observe and perform cardiac catheterization and other procedures in clinical settings.
