Nurse Anesthetists

Nurse anesthetists are advanced practice registered nurses who provide anesthesia and related services. They provide anesthesia as well as supervision while patients are under anesthesia and may also provide emergency and pain management services. Nurse anesthetists typically need a master's or doctoral degree and related experience, but a DNP with a specialization in nurse anesthesia can provide both the educational and practice experience necessary to qualify for a CRNA position. Nurse anesthetist positions are expected to grow by 17% from 2018 to 2028 because of their increased utilization in physicians' offices, hospitals, emergency and other clinics, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Nurse Practitioners

Nurse practitioners may work alongside other providers or provide primary care services independently to a variety of populations, or they may work with specific populations, such as adults and aged populations, pediatrics. Nurse practitioners provide advanced nursing services including examinations, treatments, and patient education, as well as conduct research when applicable. Nurse practitioners typically need a master's degree, but a BSN to DNP program also qualifies these individuals to become a NP, depending on their focus area. The BLS expects nurse practitioner positions to grow by 28% between 2018 and 2028.

Medical and Health Services Managers

Medical and health services managers provide management services to departments, private practices, and healthcare facilities. The duties of these managers vary by position, but may including recruitment and training, creating schedules and budgets, managing finances and communicating with department or facility heads. Graduates of a DNP program with a leadership concentration should possess the advanced leadership and practical nursing skills to excel in this position. DNP graduates may qualify for positions such as nurse administrators and nursing home administrators, depending on their DNP focus area and experience.
