There are four pathways to enter the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Boston College's Connell School of Nursing: Registered Nurse (RN) to DNP, Direct Entry DNP, Post-Master's DNP, and Post-Baccalaureate DNP. Students' DNP scholarly projects begin in the summer of their first year.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Simmons University gives students an opportunity to learn from known experts in the field in a blended learning format that includes 27 credits in core classes and a 6-credit capstone project. Courses cover topics like ethical and legal issues in advanced practice, health policy, professional leadership and practice change. There are also three capstone seminars and a practicum where students can put their acquired knowledge and skill into action.

Admission Requirements for a Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
Some programs allow individuals with an associate degree or bachelor's degree to apply for a DNP program, but those may be RN to DNP programs. Post-Baccalaureate DNP, Direct Entry DNP. or RN-to-DNP programs require a bachelor's degree or master's degree. In addition, those students may need a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in undergraduate coursework. Students may also have to complete prerequisite courses in statistics, anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology. All programs require that students must be licensed as registered nurses, and students must submit proof of immunizations, criminal background check, malpractice insurance, and CPR health care provider certification.
How to Earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree
Doctor of Nursing Practice degree programs prepare students for nursing leadership roles. These programs be completed anywhere from 16 months to three years full time study, although there are some part-time options that can fit a student's schedule if they cannot attend full-time. Students can learn about new information regarding infectious diseases, and emergency response and preparedness. At the end of this course, students may have the tools necessary to more easily analyze data that is important to evaluate the health of different populations.
In health informatics courses, students work toward improving the organization and delivery of health care for a variety of populations. These courses help students better understand how technology helps health care providers to optimize how information is collected, verified and used, in order to better serve patients. Often, students focus on how information systems can help to improve disparities in health services.
This particular requirement can take many forms, but typically involves research and is clarified and approved over multiple academic terms. This could be a practice portfolio that includes final practice synthesis, a research utilization project, or even manuscripts that has been submitted for publication. It is possible that each semester of the scholarly project could focus on a different area, like applying practice knowledge, design considerations for practice application, or another topic. This project is meant to show how a student has grown in their leadership skills and will give them a way to apply what they've learned to clinical work.
