How to Earn an Online Master's in Human Resources with No GMAT or GRE Requirement

Online master's programs in human resources that do not require the GMAT or GRE for admission may be offered as a professional master's degree, a Master of Science (MS), or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Some of these programs are available in full- and part-time formats, may align with professional requirements of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and may be completed in as little as 12, 15, or 18 months full-time, depending on the program. Typically, these programs require between 36 and 39 total credits consisting of core coursework and/or electives in human resources (some of which are discussed in detail below) and some programs may also require a capstone course, multiple immersion experiences, and/or other hands-on learning opportunities.

Talent Management/Development

Students in talent management or talent development courses learn how to help train employees and manage them in a way that creates a competitive advantage for businesses. Courses in talent management may focus on the process of talent acquisition and retention, while courses in talent development address the planning of effective training programs for current employees. Other topics for these courses may include experiential learning, evaluation, adult learning theory, employee engagement, and performance management.

Human Resource Administration

Some courses in human resource administration may focus on a specific industry, such as healthcare, but in general, these courses help train students in a wide range of human resource practices. Students may examine topics in staffing, development, and performance. Some of these courses may also discuss additional topics in salary administration, selection procedures, employee communication, and union-management relations.

Organizational Behavior

Students in organizational behavior courses gain an overview of the subject and how to apply concepts to management techniques. Some of these courses may include topics in organizational leadership and organizational change, while other programs may offer those subjects as a separate course. Through these courses, students learn how to better explain and predict events and behaviors in organizations. These courses may examine specific topics in communication, ethics, productivity, motivation, organizational systems, and self-awareness.

Employment Law

Courses in employment law explore legal concepts and legislation in terms of employment relationships. Students learn how our country's Rule of Law works and the legal process concerning employment issues. These courses may also explore topics in discrimination, such as bias in age, race, sex, or religion. Some of these courses may also work to further develop students' ability to research legal issues in the field.

Rewards usually focus on base and incentive pay systems, as well as different kinds of benefits, like health, welfare, and voluntary benefits. These courses may also discuss how these rewards are applied to motivate, develop, and retain employees.

Admittance Requirements for Online Master's Programs in Human Resources with No GMAT or GRE Requirement

Admissions requirements for online master's programs in human resources that do not require the GMAT or GRE still vary by the type of degree and school. Although most of these programs require applicants to have at least a bachelor's degree, some programs may require additional education requirements, such as a minimum GPA and/or prerequisite coursework. Several of these degree programs also require or recommend students to have professional work experience, but the amount of experience may vary by degree, like 2 years of experience for an MS degree and 4 years of experience for a professional master's degree. Some programs may offer multiple start dates and have various deadlines for students' applications. Common application materials for these programs may include transcripts, letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and/or a resume.

Students interested in earning an online master's degree in human resources without taking the GRE or GMAT can usually pursue an online professional master's, MS, or MBA degree in the field. Applicants to these programs may need a bachelor's degree and/or some work experience, and once admitted, students may be able to complete these programs in 1 to 1.5 years.
