RN to MSN Bridge Programs in Tennessee

Several schools in Tennessee offer RN-to-MSN bridge programs which enable registered nurses to bypass a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and directly pursue a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with the completion of some bridge coursework. Carson-Newman University

At Carson-Newman University, registered nurses who have an associate's degree or diploma in nursing can earn a Master of Science in Nursing with a family nurse practitioner concentration. Coursework is completed entirely online while residency sessions and clinical practice work are completed on site. The RN-to-MSN program takes around four years to complete and allows students to continue working full time while earning their degree.

East Tennessee State University

The RN-to-MSN program at East Tennessee State University enables registered nurses with a bachelor's degree in any field to earn a Master of Science in Nursing. The program is completed primarily online in as little as two years, and consists of a four-course undergraduate bridge (12 credits) followed by MSN courses and clinical practicum experiences. Students can focus their MSN in family nurse practitioner (51 credit hours), nursing administration (45 credit hours), nursing education (39 credit hours), or psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (48 credit hours).

Southern Adventist University

Registered nurses who have a diploma or associate's degree in nursing can earn a Master of Science in Nursing at Southern Adventist University through their accelerated RN-to-MSN program. Students will complete 7-31 credits of bridgework, depending on completed prerequisites, and can then choose earn their MSN with one of the following concentrations: adult/gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (48 credit hours), adult/gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (47 credit hours), family nurse practitioner (47 credit hours), psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (54 credit hours), or nurse educator (42 credit hours).

Tennessee Technological University

Tennessee Technological University has an RN-to-MSN bridge program for registered nurses who have an associate's degree in nursing and a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field. The program consists of 49 credit hours of instruction and clinical practice and can be completed in around three years of part-time study. The program is focused in family nurse practitioner, and provides students with advanced practice nursing skills and knowledge.

Tusculum University

Registered nurses who have earned at least an associate's degree in nursing can purse a Master of Science in Nursing through Tusculum University's RN-to-MSN program. With a family nurse practitioner focus, the program consists of 63 credit hours. The program requires clinical practice completed through a hybrid format, with classes held one day per week over two to three years.

Union University

Union University offers an RN-to-MSN program to registered nurses who have an associate's degree or diploma in nursing. Students who have not previously completed the required prerequisites may need to take up to six bridge courses. The program can be completed in two years of full-time study, and allows students to concentrate in administration (online, 39 credit hours), education (online, 41 credit hours), family nurse practitioner (46 credit hours), or family psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner(46 credit hours).

University of Memphis

The University of Memphis has an RN-to-MSN program that allows registered nurses who have a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field to earn a Master of Science in Nursing. Students will complete 12 credit hours of bridge courses and continue on to the graduate coursework. Students can complete the program in as little as two years and concentrate their curriculum in nurse education (40 credit hours), executive leadership (37 credit hours), or family nurse practitioner (46 credit hours).

Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University offers an ASN-to-MSN program to nurses who have an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or a diploma in nursing which can be completed in around three years. The first year of the program will consist of bridge courses which may be completed online or on campus followed by the graduate component of the MSN program. Students can concentrate their degree in adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (40 credits), adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (hospitalist or intensivist, 41-42 credits), emergency nurse practitioner (50-51 credits), family nurse practitioner (38-40 credits), nursing informatics (36 credits), nursing and healthcare leadership (37-38 credits), neonatal nurse practitioner (40 credits), nurse midwifery (53 credits), nurse midwifery/family nurse practitioner (65-67 credits), pediatric primary care nurse practitioner (40 credits), pediatric acute care nurse practitioner (40 credits), psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (40 credits), women's health/adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (56 credits), or women's health nurse practitioner (40 credits). Registered nurses may also qualify to earn a dual MSN/MTS (Master of Theological Studies) or MSN/MDiV (Master of Divinity) with an additional two years of coursework.
