Careers in Dental Assisting and Aid

Dentists employ a variety of assistants and aides to help with patient care and other duties. Hygienists clean teeth and prepare patients for care by a dentist. Dental laboratory technologists operate X-Ray machines, drills, computer equipment, cameras and other pieces of technology used by dentists in root canals, fillings, general cleanings and other procedures. These positions may require only an associate's degree or completion of a specialized career certification program. Salaries are generally competitive, with most professionals earning over $30,000 annually, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov.
