In 2013, ASU was rated among the top colleges in the western United States by The Princeton Review, and it made The Princeton Review's list of The Best 377 Colleges in the same year. In addition, ASU's physics program was rated first in the state by Physics Today.

While the total cost of attendance (including tuition, fees, and living expenses) is higher than average for Texas residents, it's lower than the national average for out-of-state students, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). A room in Carr Hall with 15 meals per week was $6,724 for the 2012-2013 academic year, while a room in Centennial Village with 20 meals per week was $8,706, both lower than the national average of $9,315 given by the College Board for public, four-year universities.

According to the NCES, the student-faculty ratio at ASU is higher than the national average, but graduate teaching assistants make up only 6% of the teaching staff at ASU, so most of your classes would be taught by full-time professors. ASU's four-year graduation rate is 16%, which significantly lower than the national average of 40%.

Getting In & Financial Aid

All applicants must submit ACT or SAT scores, but if you are in the top 10% of your high school class, no minimum test score is required. If you are in the next 40% of your high school class, you'll need an ACT score of 17 or an SAT score of 820. Otherwise, your application will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Texas requires that applicants either show successful completion of a high school program or GED or earn qualifying test scores: ACT scores of 18 in English, 22 in Math, 21 in reading, and 24 in science, or a composite SAT score of at least 1500. While ASU is selective, its acceptance rate was 93% in 2011.

Tuition and fees during the 2012-2013 academic year came to $7,500 for Texas residents and $17,320 for non-residents, according to ASU. You can apply for federal and state grants, work-study, and loans. Furthermore, several types of scholarships are available to students who qualify. You can apply for financial aid starting January 1st for the following fall semester by submitting an electronic Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You should check the financial aid deadlines carefully; while the priority deadline for 2012-2013 was April 1, 2012, it was February 1, 2013 for the 2013-2014 academic year.
