There are several graduate schools that offer online Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees and accept transfer credits. Some of the concentrations MBA students in these schools can pursue are accounting, finance, analytics, and leadership.
Online MBA Degree Program Concentrations
Many online MBA degree programs accept transfer credits. These programs, which usually take 1 to 3 years to complete, offer many concentrations for students to consider.
Students who select accounting as an area of concentration for their online MBA degree will usually take at least 3 advanced accounting courses. Developing marketing strategies, new product creation, and branding are a few of the topics that might be covered in an MBA marketing concentration. Other topics might focus on e-commerce or Internet marketing. To meet this concentration requirement, it is common for students to complete 3 or 4 courses.
Common MBA Program Admissions Requirements
The schools that offer online MBA degrees have many common admissions requirements. The first step in the process is usually completing the application, closely followed by submitting official undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Applicants are often asked to submit essays stating why they want or need to pursue an MBA and recommendations from personal and/or academic sources. Graduate Records Examinations (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores may be required; however, these tests can be waived if the applicant meets specific standards established by the school and/or program. Non-native English-speaking applicants may be required to submit TOEFL or other English language proficiency test scores.
How Do Schools Determine Whether Students Receive Transfer Credits?
After receiving transcripts from applicants and, in some cases, a form requesting review for credit, schools compare earned credits from courses taken previously to courses offered in their programs. They look at course descriptions, credit hours, course outcomes, and other variables. If there is a strong similarity between previously taken courses and program offerings, schools may reward partial or full credit for 1 or more courses. Many MBA programs accept anywhere from 6 to twenty-four (24) credits, depending on whether the credits being transferred are from quarter-credit or semester-credit courses, and no grades are transferred with the credits. The decision regarding acceptance of transfer credits rests with the receiving school.
