Nonverbal communication pertains to body language, posture, and facial expressions that allow a connection with an individual and assist in deescalating tensions. Paraverbal communication refers to the volume and tone of communication used with an aggressor. Verbal communication covers word choices and sentence structures that are most effective in crisis de-escalation.
