What Is A Certified Nursing Technician And How Can I Become One?

Certified Nursing Technicians (CNTs), more often known as certified patient care technicians (CPCTs), are healthcare workers who work with patients typically alongside a registered nurse (RN). They perform duties such as bathing and feeding patients who are unable to do so themselves and may be tasked with taking vital signs at regular intervals. As a technician rather than an assistant, they are also trained to perform some basic medical tasks like drawing blood or performing scans.

To become a CNT, one must have a high school diploma and complete an approved training course before taking a certification or licensure exam. Some states may have additional requirements, such as passing a background check or continuing education requirements, so be sure to check the laws in your state.
