California, Texas, New York, Florida, and Ohio had high employment levels and paid average salaries ranging from $72,190-$109,350. California also was among the highest-paying states for this occupation and offered sonographers an average wage of $109,350.

<p>Other states offering high average earnings were Hawaii ($99,390), District of Columbia ($99,860), Washington ($95,990) and Oregon ($95,420).
