The three distinct Slavic cultural regions (East, West and South) have different histories, languages, alphabets and folklore. You may also find a position with an international law firm or global corporation, or teach at the college and university level. </p> <p>In May 2013, the BLS reported that <a href="https://learn.org/articles/Lawyer_Job_Duties_Career_Outlook_and_Educational_Requirements.html">lawyers</a> had a mean annual wage of $131,990, while <a href="https://learn.org/articles/How_Do_I_Become_a_Management_Analyst.html">management analysts</a> averaged $89,990 per year. As of May 2013, college <a href="https://learn.org/articles/What_Education_is_Needed_for_College_Professors.html">professors</a> who specialized in area, ethnic and cultural studies had a mean annual wage of $77,550, while professionals who worked in the fast-growing field of interpretation and translation earned an average of $47,920 a year (<i>www.bls.gov</i>). </p> <h2 id="section---HowCanIWorkInSlavicCulture">How Can I Work in Slavic Culture?</h2> <h3 id="section---UndergraduatePrograms">Undergraduate Programs</h3> <p>An undergraduate program in Slavic studies typically leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Expect to study at least one Slavic language, such as <a href="https://learn.org/articles/Russian_Literature_Courses_and_Degrees_Your_Questions_Answered.html">Russian</a> or Czech. Fluency in at least two is recommended if you plan on advancing to a graduate degree program. The curriculum usually includes topics in Slavic <a href="https://learn.org/articles/Bachelors_Degree_in_History_Online_Degree.html">history</a>, economics, <a href="https://learn.org/articles/International_Relations_Degrees_Online_Program_FAQs.html">international relations</a> and political science. You may also study regional literature and theatre, Studying abroad is strongly encouraged; cities such as Prague, St. Petersburg and Moscow are common options. </p> <h3 id="section---GraduatePrograms">Graduate Programs</h3> <p>You can pursue both a Master of Arts and doctoral degree in Slavic studies. Some programs may require fluency in Russian, as well as an additional Slavic language and <a href="https://learn.org/articles/French_Language_Courses_and_Degree_Programs_Your_Questions_Answered.html">French</a> or <a href="https://learn.org/articles/German_Language_Courses_Your_Questions_Answered.html">German</a>. Master's degree programs don't always require a thesis, but doctoral programs usually culminate in a written dissertation and an oral defense.
