How to Become an EMT in NJ
Completion of an emergency medical technician (EMT) training program is a must for those intending to pursue a career in this field in the state of New Jersey. A few community colleges in New Jersey provide basic EMT training courses and certificate and degree programs. You can earn a certificate or Associate of Applied Science in paramedic science. These programs will contain much of the same or similar training as in the non-degree programs; for the two-year degree programs, you must also complete general education coursework.
Your EMT training in New Jersey will typically involve classroom instruction along with simulated exercises and participation in actual emergency response settings, such as hospital ERs or ambulance services. You will receive hands-on training in attending to trauma patients, including lifting and transportation methods as well as medical care, such as controlling bleeding, applying splints, and administering cardiac care. All studies will help you prepare to take required state certification exams.
