As a result, many Historically Black Colleges and University campuses hold a lot of history, with turn-of-the-century buildings, including dorms and residents' halls.

Many have also updated their dorms to be comfortable and provide amenities to students as they study and complete their programs.

There are over 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the United States, and many have dorms and on-campus housing. However, not all dorms are the same.

We've listed seven of the HBCUs with the best dorms below in alphabetical order.

1. Fisk University

Fisk University is a private, historically Black liberal arts college in Nashville, Tennessee that enrolls a little over 1,000 students in bachelor's and master's degree programs.

The university offers five on-campus housing options, one for female freshmen, one for male freshmen and upperclassmen, one for female upperclassmen, and two co-ed options.

Jubilee Hall, the dorm for female freshmen, was built in 1876 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Meanwhile, the newest housing is an innovative village of micro-apartments made from shipping containers.

Amenities for student residents include air conditioning, on-site laundry facilities, Wi-Fi and cable, and study lounges.

2. Fort Valley State University

Fort Valley State University is a public, Historically Black University in Fort Valley, Georgia. It enrolls about 2,600 students in bachelor's and master's programs.

Most students who live on campus live in the Wildcat Commons, which includes a clubhouse with takeout food options and a recreation center.

Students who live in Wildcat Commons have access to computer labs, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and cable TV.

Those who are part of the Residential Leadership Community can live in Ohio Hall, which also offers a media room and 24-hour visitation.

3. Howard University

Howard University is a private, historically Black research university in Washington, D.C. that offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs to nearly 13,000 students.

The university offers six dorms for freshmen, two of which are co-ed, and seven co-ed dorms for upperclassmen. Many residence halls offer both single and double-occupancy rooms.

Amenities vary between buildings but generally include laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and cable TV. Some buildings also include fitness centers, cafeterias, and convenience stores.

4. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is a public, historically Black research university in Greensboro, North Carolina.

It enrolls about 13,500 students in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs.

There are eleven residential buildings across the campus. Freshmen have separate dorms, some co-ed and some single-gender, while upperclassmen dorms are all co-ed.

Students can choose between single, double, or deluxe rooms. All dorms include amenities like Wi-Fi, cable, computer labs, laundry facilities, and snack areas.

5. Savannah State University

Savannah State University is a public, historically Black university in Savannah, Georgia that offers associate, bachelor's, and master's programs to about 3,000 students.

There are seven co-ed residence halls on campus, four of which are specifically for freshmen. Students can choose from dorm rooms, suites, apartments, and townhouses.

6. Spelman College

Spelman College is a private, historically Black women's liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia. It enrolls over 3,000 students in bachelor's degree and certificate programs.

Most rooms in the eleven residence halls are double-occupancy, although some are singles and some house three or four students.

General amenities include Wi-Fi, cable TV, laundry facilities, and TV and study lounges. Many also offer computer labs, full communal kitchens, and vending options.

7. Winston-Salem University

Winston-Salem University is a public, historically Black university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina that offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs to about 5,000 students.

There are nine residence halls on campus as well as one university-run apartment building less than two miles from campus with a shuttle service.

Rooms, suites, and apartments are available. Most are double occupancy, although some single-room options are available.
