This course includes topics in freight broker basics, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements, sales and marketing techniques, setting up shipper and carrier packets, carrier relations and setting rates. </p> <h3 id="section---UniversityOfCentralFlorida">University of Central Florida</h3> <p>The University of Central Florida in Orlando offers an online freight training program that allows students six months to complete the coursework, with the option of a six-month extension. The class includes topics in all areas of freight brokering, including an overview of the transportation industry, starting your own business and industry regulations. This program also offers students help with job placement by offering chances to meet with freight brokerages and discuss employment options. Graduates can also take part in weekly online resource sessions. </p> <h3 id="section---HoustonCommunityCollege">Houston Community College</h3> <p>The continuing education division of Houston Community College in Texas offers a freight broker training course in conjunction with Excelsior Enterprise International Inc. The one-day course is taught by former U.S. Department of Transportation regulators, and, upon completion, students are prepared to find jobs as freight agents or brokers or to start their own business.
