About California Institute of Arts and Technology

Founded in 2008, California Institute of Arts and Technology aims to provide the type of hands-on training and certifications often needed by IT professionals to maintain industry knowledge and remain competitive in the field. In 2016, the institute's new location in Mission Valley, San Diego, opened, and another location, in National City, San Diego, was established the following year. CIAT earned accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET) in 2015.

If you're interested in obtaining an associate's degree, CIAT offers two: an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems and an AAS in Software Development. Both can be taken 100% online or in-person on campus. The former consists of 20 courses, while the latter requires the completion of 17 classes. The AAS in Computer Information Systems focuses primarily on technical subjects, such as hardware technologies, routing, programming, and networking, with only 25% of courses taken in general education subjects. Tracks are offered in IT, Network, or Security. Database management, C++ programming, software design, and internet architecture are among the subjects you can expect to focus on in the AAS in Software Development program. A total of 14 industry certifications are also offered, such as CompTIA (including Linux+, Network+, and Security+), Cisco, and Microsoft.

Want to enhance your competencies and skills in specific areas, such as cloud computing or programming, without earning a degree? CIAT's certificate programs, like the associate's degree programs available online or in-person, will prepare you for relevant certifications. Certificates are available in, among other areas, Network Technician, Cloud Administration, Software Development, Cisco CCNA and CCNP, and Microsoft Office. Duration and required number of courses varies according to which certificate you are pursuing; some consist of as little as 3-4 courses and take just 15 weeks to complete. Online studies in all programs at CIAT are conducted through interactive videos, virtual labs, and video conferencing. Hands-on learning is ensured since CIAT will send you networking equipment, tool-kits, and more.
