Medical Assisting Diploma Programs in North Carolina

Carteret Community College

Carteret Community College's medical assisting diploma program prepares you for entry-level work in a medical setting. You'll learn how to perform medical transcription and common laboratory tasks, code and process insurance paperwork, and schedule appointments. Courses include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, office administration, legal and ethical issues, infection control, and psychology. A clinical component is also required. You'll also obtain CPR certification. Upon completion of the diploma program, you may sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam.

You can also advance your education and pursue the medical assisting associate's degree program, which takes two years to complete. The school also offers a 13-curriculum hour certificate program in medical assisting; no practicum is required. The certificate program does not prepare you for the professional certification exam.

Craven Community College

The curriculum of the medical assistant diploma program includes coursework, lab studies, and a 15-hour clinical externship. You'll learn first aid and CPR, medical terminology, laboratory procedures, exam room procedures, and administrative office procedures. By adding general education courses and a few more health-related courses like preventive health, management, psychology, and patient education, you can also go on to earn an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting.

Medical Assisting Associate's Degree Programs in North Carolina

Martin Community College

As a medical assistant student, you'll complete classroom studies, laboratory experiences, and a clinical externship to gain hands-on training in a medical setting. The AAS program also requires completion of general education courses. Richmond Community College

Richmond Community College's medical assistant associate's degree program provides you with a curriculum of courses, lab studies and clinical externships. You'll learn about medical administrative duties, electrocardiography, medical coding and billing and assisting with medical examinations, as well as legal and ethical issues working with patients. You'll also take general education classes. Upon eligibility, you will be required to take the AAMA certification exam in the final spring semester.
