A number of two-year, public schools in North Carolina offer paramedic training programs. Students may elect to earn a diploma or an associate's degree that will qualify them to take the certification examination at the paramedic level. All paramedic training programs in North Carolina require that students hold a high school diploma or GED, but other admission requirements may include particular vaccinations, a valid driver's license and/or a placement exam. A diploma program in paramedicine may take three to five semesters to complete, while an associate's degree program typically requires two years of enrollment.

The emergency medical services diploma program at Fayetteville Technical Community College is a 3-semester program that prepares you for employment as an entry-level paramedic. Some of the course topics include oxygen therapy and respiratory emergencies. Additionally, you will complete a field internship that will give you hands-on experience.
