<p>Quinnipiac University's Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine offers a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree program for students in North Haven, Connecticut. This program has a strong focus on clinical exposure to ensure that graduates are equipped with not only the general competencies for employment within the field but have also received also direct first-hand experiences. During the first two years, students will engage in a combination of traditional coursework and clinical experiences working with patients in a community practice environment. The third and fourth years focus more heavily on clinical experiences and residency placement. Their MD is another four-year program with a non-traditional approach of forgoing rankings or grades for the first two years while students focus on learning, personal growth, and investigation of the field without worrying about competition. Courses include Human Anatomy, Patient Assessment, Diagnostic Studies, Clinical Medicine, and Behavioral and Preventative Medicine. Although this is a four-year program, students may also elect to stay on for an option fifth year at Yale, a time which can allow students to complete a dual degree program, undergo independent research, or work on other academic projects and activities. While the degree dose not need to be in a specific field, applicants will need to have completed several credit hours in core-concept areas, such as chemistry, physics, and biology, as well as their associated laboratory studies. Prospective students will also need to have an acceptable GPA, particularly in those aforementioned core-content areas; usually, this means a GPA of at least 3.0, if not higher, as many of the students accepted into these schools have GPAs of around 3.6. </p> <p>These universities also require Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores to be submitted to the department of admissions. Students should expect to provide letters of recommendation, typically two or three letters from previous professors, which establish a more complete academic history from the perspective of previous educators as well as demonstrate goals and proficiency within the field of study. It is also common for students to be interviewed as part of the admissions process, where students can showcase their motivations, proficiencies, goals, and accomplishments. </p> <p>There are currently three medical schools in Connecticut that offer a Doctor of Medicine degree as well as several dual-track degree programs.
