Quicken is a personal finance software tool developed by Intuit, Inc. to manage home or small business accounting. QuickBooks is a similar type of finance software developed for small business accounting. Both software packages are available for the Windows and Mac operating systems.

Quicken training classes teach you how to use the software to manage business and personal finances, as well as more complex transactions like retirement savings or debt payoff. Specific courses include:

Accounting

This course will teach students the basic accounting principles that are used through the Quicken software. Major areas of study include business merchandise and service transactions and their proper documentation techniques.

Payroll

Students will learn the fundamental terminology of payroll accounting. Payroll reporting standards will also be explored in addition to its applications with accounting software.

QuickBooks Pro

With this course, students will explore the concepts of invoicing, managing accounts with vendors and the reconciliation of bank statements with financial institutions. Other topics include sales tax and the customization of financial reports for your business.

Spreadsheets

This course will teach students about the integration of Microsoft Excel with QuickBooks software. Topics include spreadsheet fundamentals, including financial and managerial accounting.

Intermediate/Bookkeeping

Students will cover more advanced concepts for QuickBooks, such as the management of files for multiple companies and the tracking of credits and discounts. Additional areas of study include the development of financial reports and the calculations associated with the depreciation formula.

Quicken and QuickBooks classes are offered as part of business degree programs, such as a B.A. in Business Administration or Certificate in Business Administration. Individual courses are available from community colleges and through continuing education and extension programs of 4-year universities.
