<h2 id="section---TexasBusinessEducationTeacherCertificationInformation">Texas Business Education Teacher Certification Information</h2> <p>Business education teachers prepare students to enter careers in the business sector and may instruct in areas such as marketing, management, finance and more. To become certified as a business education in Texas, prospective teachers must meet the initial requirements to become a teacher as well as gain business education certification. Students should major in business, finance, business education, or another business-related field. While the major requirements will differ between schools, students should expect to take courses in a variety of topics, such as international business, accounting, finance, management, and marketing. </p> <p>As part of the degree, students must complete an educator preparation program that has been approved by the Texas Education Agency. This program will include a mix of coursework related to educational methods and theory, and fieldwork as a student teacher in a local school. Students must also complete coursework in how detect and teach students with dyslexia. </p> <h3 id="section---PassRequiredExams">Pass Required Exams</h3> <p>Prospective business education teachers must pass two exams to become certified: the TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) (EC-12) exam and the TExES Business and Finance (6-12) exam. Students should receive approval from their program before registering for these exams. </p> <p>The PPR tests a students on general education topics, such as student instruction, curriculum development, and classroom management. There are 100 multiple-choice questions and the minimum passing score is 240. The Business and Finance exam tests a student in five main subtopics: finance; business management; ethics, law, communication, and international business; technology and information systems; and leadership and career development. This exam also contains 100 multiple-choice questions and requires a passing score of 240. </p> <h3 id="section---SubmitApplication">Submit Application</h3> <p>After the above requirements have been met, prospective teaches can submit their application to the Texas Education Agency. This will include a completed application form, fee, transcripts, and supporting documentation. Applicants should confirm that they are eligible to apply with their educator preparation program. Applicants must also submit fingerprints and undergo a criminal background check. </p> <h3 id="section---MeetRenewalRequirements">Meet Renewal Requirements</h3> <p>The teacher certification is valid for five years. To renew the certification, teachers must complete 150 continuing professional education (CPE) hours. Teachers may fulfill this requirement in several ways, such as taking advanced college courses, attending workshops, and mentoring junior teachers. Teachers should check with the Texas Education Agency before choosing a program. A renewal application and fee is also required.</p>
