Prior to attending their first interview, applicants are required to hold evidence of a high school diploma and completion of an associate's degree or a minimum of 60 credit hours from a regionally-accredited college or university (no degree field specified). </p><p>Applicants will provide a degree or transcript as proof of meeting these educational requirements. Those holding a foreign degree must have this translated and verified by a U.S.-accredited service. Two references letters must also be provided from professional contacts, including (but not limited to) professors, colleagues, or supervisors (alternatively, they can also fill out the reference forms provided by KES). Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age and must have attended a substitute teacher orientation. </p><h3 id="section---Step2PreparingBackgroundClearanceFees">Step 2: Preparing Background Clearance Fees</h3><p>Applying substitute teachers must submit the required fees for a mandatory drug and fingerprint test. A money order made payable to Kelly Services will need to be brought on the day of their interview for the required drug test. Fingerprint fees must be paid online prior to the interview process. </p><h3 id="section---Step3SchedulingYourFirstInterview">Step 3: Scheduling Your First Interview</h3><p>The KES website will take individuals through an application process that will help them schedule their first interview. All interviews are exclusively held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 AM and may last from 4-5 hours. After successfully completing an interview, individuals are then required to undergo the mandatory fingerprint test to be eligible to work for Orange County public schools. </p><h3 id="section---InformationOnPreEmploymentTraining">Information on Pre-Employment Training</h3><p>Upon scheduling their first interview, substitutes will be granted access to portal called TeacherMatch, where they are required to complete an online training program provided by KES. This will cover the fundamental areas of a teaching position, including classroom management, instructional strategies, legal and health issues, and ethics. At the end of the program, applicants will be assessed on their knowledge of the topics discussed and will need score a minimum passing grade of 80%. Individuals will be given two attempts to pass this test; if they fail both, they are unable to apply to KES for substitute teaching roles for one year. The entire program will take about two hours to complete. </p><p>This training must be completed 48 hours before your interview, or your session will be rescheduled.</p>
