Undergraduate fields of study at the school include, but are by no means limited to, aerospace studies, education, film studies, pharmacology, marketing and management. Students can choose from 72 undergraduate majors in all. The university is home to over 50 research centers and offers students a number of opportunities to participate in research projects. </p> <p>While the national average 4-year graduation rate is 40%, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) estimates this figure to be 22% for students who started studies at U of U in 2006. However, NCES also estimates that the acceptance rate at U of U is 83%, considerably higher than the national average of 63.8%. </p> <p>According to NCES, the cost of room and board at U of U was $7,705 in the 2012-2013 school year, lower than the national average of $9,205. However, the total expenses for tuition, fees, room and board at U of U in that year were $22,314, as per NCES. This is higher than the national average total cost of $17,860 for 4-year, public schools across the nation. </p> <p>The University of Utah was ranked #121 among National Universities by <i>U.S. News and World Report</i> in 2014. The student to faculty ratio is 13:1, lower than the average of 15:1. <i>U.S. News and World Report</i> also states that only 2% of men women are in fraternities or sororities. In addition to this, only 14% of the student body live on campus. </p> <h2 id="section---GettingInFinancialAidAtTheUniversityOfUtah"> Getting In &amp; Financial Aid at the University of Utah</h2> <p>If you're a high school senior or graduate, you must first complete and submit an application for undergraduate admissions and pay the admissions fee by the filing deadline. An official high school transcript must also be mailed to the Admissions Office, directly from your school. While it is preferred that you take and submit scores from the ACT near the end of your junior year or the beginning of your senior year, combined SAT critical reading and math scores will also be accepted. </p> <p>Resident and non-resident merit, leadership and diversity scholarships are available to qualified incoming freshmen and many of the university's departments also award scholarships of their own. Contact the financial aid and scholarship office as soon as possible in the application process. The free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available on U of U's web site, or can usually be given to you by a high school counselor or found online. This application is for need-based federal, state or industrial grants as well as loans and work-study programs. As a student, you'll be informed about academic policies and expectations, student support services and course selection and registration. The office will also introduce you to campus resources such as security and recreational opportunities. </p> <p>The U Of U campus offers a variety of recreational opportunities, from fitness classes and intramural sports to a diverse offering of clubs and student organizations. There are over 450 student clubs and organizations to choose from on-campus as well as ROTC programs. The University of Utah is a NCAA Division I school with a wide variety of athletic programs and competitive sports options. Off-campus, you can visit a number of area museums, and sites and skiers can make use of what's considered some of the finest slopes in the country. </p> <p>Both students and alumni can access the University of Utah's website to obtain career services help.
