General Information about Arizona State University

Arizona State University is the largest college in the state, enrolling more than 64,000 students each year. Established in 1885, the university has a long history of academic excellence. The university has received numerous recognitions, including a ranking in the top 100 universities in the world by the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. U.S. News and World Report ranked the W.P. Carey School of Business in the top 20 universities for five specialty areas, including supply chain management, information systems and marketing. The Financial Times ranked ASU's executive MBA program as one of the best in the country.

In addition to attending the Tempe campus, students can take courses at campuses in downtown Phoenix, Mesa and West Phoenix. The university also offers a distance learning program that awards bachelor's and master's degrees.

Enrollment Process and Information

Arizona State University requires enrolling students to meet several competency, high school graduation and aptitude requirements. Students must submit an application, which is available online or in print form, a non-refundable application fee, SAT or ACT scores and all official transcripts. Some colleges or programs require additional admission qualifications, which must be met prior to enrollment.

The application deadline for the fall semester is February 1 and the deadline for the spring semester is December 1. For priority enrollment, students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Students can check the status of their applications through the university's My ASU online student management system. Once approved, students can participate in freshman orientation activities.

Financial Aid Information

Arizona State University offers significant financial aid opportunities: in 2007-08, more than 70% of students received some amount of financial aid. In 2008-09, Arizona State University awarded more than half a billion dollars in financial aid. Students can take advantage of Pell grants, student loans, scholarships, federal work-study programs and alternative sources of funding.

The university offers a helpful video tutorial that explains the financial aid process. ASU provides students with a scholarship search page that displays available scholarships. Students can also search for scholarship opportunities offered outside of the university. According to the college, most scholarships are available from November until March, but many are attainable throughout the year. To be eligible for financial aid, students must complete the FAFSA and fill out additional scholarship paperwork when required. Students can track their financial aid status online.

Career Services

The university offers valuable career and professional services, including free access to to Sun Devil CareerLink, an online career database that helps ASU students find jobs across the country. The service is provided in conjunction with the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Students can also take advantage of numerous career fairs, workshops and seminars that focus on specific job-hunting aspects, such as interviewing, resume-writing, networking and professional preparation. Career advisors administer career surveys and assessments, group presentations and other events to give students an increased chance of immediate employment upon graduation.
