What Kinds of Online Medical Law Degrees Can I Earn?
The most common online medical law degree is the master's degree in health law. This may be offered as a Master of Jurisprudence, Master of Science, or Master of Advanced Studies. These programs are designed for healthcare professionals who don't have a legal education. You'll benefit the most from such a program if you have a background in healthcare billing, nursing, medicine or allied health. These programs are also widely available on campus. Neither online nor on-campus programs prepare you for the bar exam or legal practice.

</p><h3 id="section---HowDoIEnroll">How Do I Enroll?</h3><p>You'll need to earn an undergraduate degree in nursing, healthcare billing or an allied health field before you enroll in an online program at the graduate level. You'll also need to have professional experience in a healthcare field, letters of recommendation and an explanation of how you plan to use your graduate education in the workforce. While explaining how you plan to apply your graduate degree, you'll also need to demonstrate your familiarity with the healthcare field.
</p><h3 id="section---WhatCanILearn">What Can I Learn?</h3><p>Master's degree programs in this field include coursework that explores the link between legal issues and the healthcare industry. You can expect to complete coursework in health policy, finance and bioethics. You can also expect to complete workshops and seminars that address each area of study.
</p><p>Coursework in health policy will teach you about legislation and the factors legislators consider when devising new healthcare laws. You'll also learn how to influence health policy. Economics and finance courses will explore health management organizations, accounting and financial management. Bioethics coursework will approach organizational healthcare decisions from a legal and cost-control perspective.
</p><h3 id="section---WhatTypeOfStudyCanIPursueIfIHaveLegalTraining">What Type of Study Can I Pursue if I Have Legal Training?</h3><p>You can earn your Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) or Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Health Law through campus-based programs. You can also enroll in a program that awards both. Master of Jurisprudence programs accept practicing lawyers and paralegals looking to learn more about medical law. You'll need a bachelor's degree before you work toward a Master of Jurisprudence.
</p><p>An LL.M. program can provide you additional legal training and an overview of regulatory, medical practice and other health care issues within the legal system. You'll need to be a graduate of a Juris Doctor program before pursuing your LL.M., but you don't need to be admitted to the bar before taking courses.</p>
