Western Governors University is an online school that provides higher education for adult learners. In 1995, governors from 19 states created the idea during a Western Governors' Association meeting. By 1999, the first students were accepted. Today, the university has an annual enrollment of over 14,000 students from across the United States.

Enrollment Process and Information
Students must complete an intake interview and submit official high school transcripts for enrollment consideration. An application fee is mandatory. New terms start at the beginning of each month, and last for six months. Incoming students are required to pass a Readiness Assessment Test after applying for admission.
