The first is having earned a bachelor's degree through an approved teacher training program outside of New Hampshire. The second option is having three years of teacher experience during the last seven years under a valid teaching license for a state other than New Hampshire. It should be noted that only full teaching licenses are considered reciprocal in New Hampshire. In addition, the existing teaching license must be in an endorsement area equivalent to one that New Hampshire offers. </p><h3 id="section---BasicAcademicSkillsAssessmentRequirement">Basic Academic Skills Assessment Requirement</h3><p>As part of the reciprocity process, teachers who do not possess an out-of-state initial teacher license or higher will need to meet the Basic Academic Skills Assessment (BASA) requirement. They can fulfill this requirement in one of several ways: </p><ul><li>Passing scores on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, which takes five hours to complete </li><li>Passing scores for an out-of-state- test similar to the Praxis exam </li><li>Scores in the 50th percentile or higher on the GRE, ACT, or SAT </li></ul><h3 id="section---SubjectAreaTestAndReadingTestRequirement">Subject Area Test and Reading Test Requirement</h3><p>The reciprocity process also includes demonstrating proficiency in the chosen subject area. Candidates will need to take and pass a Praxis subject test. </p><p>Those interested in teaching early childhood education, elementary education, and reading and writing will also need to pass the Pearson Foundations of Reading test. </p><h3 id="section---ApplyingForLicensure">Applying for Licensure</h3><p>Applicants with a teacher preparation program will need to submit their official transcripts indicating their program verification, such as CAEP, TEAC, or NCATE. If the transcripts do not indicate program verification, applicants will need to provide an official statement from the institution verifying their training. </p><p>Candidates with work experience must provide their official transcripts, copies of their out-of-state license and test scores, and reference letters from employers illustrating their relevant work experience from the last seven years. </p><h3 id="section---ExperiencedEducatorLicensingProcess">Experienced Educator Licensing Process</h3><p>Applicants typically apply for New Hampshire's Beginning Education License (BEL), but they can apply for the Experienced Educator License (EEL) as well. Candidates will need three years of full-time teaching experience, with their work rated as effective for two years in a row and have gone through a renewal period. To apply for the EEL, candidates will need to submit a letter to request an upgrade.</p>
